Do you know where you are going? Does your team? If you aren't crystal clear on what your true north is, how do you navigate? How do you know when to make course corrections? If you don't know where you are heading, how can you possibly lead your team with certainty, and expect high performance?
Why does your organisation exist? And why is it important that it not only continues to exist, but continues to grow and develop? What is your inspiring vision for the future.
Every human being has a purpose and a hierarchy of values, even if they aren't consciously aware of them. To develop and sustain a high performance team, there must be a clear alignment between what they love to do and what the organisation exists to do.
Your responsibility as their leader is to consistently communicate the vision and direction of the organisation to keep the connection strong and coherent. It is also your responsibility as the leader to hold people accountable to the purpose, or remove them from the business. No one person should ever be more important than true north, not even the owner.
